Karkloof Safari Spa Lodge

Imagine an enchanted place where you can hang out with some of South Africa’s big 5, eat until you can’t eat anymore and enjoy round the clock Spa and safari service as you please… Imagine no more! This paradise is called Karkloof Safari Spa, and can be found in the Midlands, a stone throw away from the City of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

I was lucky enough to spend my weekend at Karkloof with my hubby and some of my amazing friends and their partners.

The greeting at Karkloof was warm- literally; we got hot towels on arrival- and friendly. The Karkloof Lodge is connected to the spa and dining areas by storybook wooden walkways over calming and majestic streams and trees.

No one villa, out of all 16, is decorated the same, but the rooms are all stylishly relaxing. The midlands can be extremely cold so I was quite nervous about how cold it would be, but the rooms are equipped with under-floor heating to keep you and you luxury villa nice and toastie.

With attentive service, dining at leisure and safaris on demand, it became clear to me that one’s wellbeing and satisfaction are Karkloof’s highest priority.

The Spa was obviously a highlight of this trip. At no extra charge, I was able to do almost any spa treatment I wanted. Some of my favorite treatments are the distress massage and the facials offered at the spa. Another amazing thing about the spa treatments at Karkloof is that all the products are organic and made at Karkloof with all the healing plants grown at Karkloof to make massage oils, wraps etc.

The Spa offers unlimited treatments when you’re staying at Karkloof so you could actualy spend your day being pampered by the best of them!

So far, this trip was already proving to be just what I needed before heading back to my room to do a little bit of studying. I don’t think I could have picked a better place to prepare for a test on Monday. This place is so serine and calm that you start to feel guilty for checking your phone for even a second, because it feels like you should be taking every single moment and breath of fresh air in, without a single distraction.

Another highlight of this trip for me has got to be the safaris and being able to see all the wonder that is nature up close and personal. We took a 800m walk to the Karkloof Waterfall, which was great because we were able to get some physical activity in, all that relaxing was starting to feel strange. Once we got to the waterfall it was beyond stunning, serene and relaxing.

Karkloof doesn’t have any predetors, so the safaris aren’t stressful for those who cannot be asked to look a lion in the eye. We were still able to see some amazing animals like Zebras, Rhinos, Hippos, giraffes, kudus etc. It was just absolutely amazing to see animals in their natural habitat.
